Acceptable Hazardous Material

The Brown County Hazardous Material Recovery Facility accepts materials that pose a threat to human health and the environment.  These materials are flammable, poisonous, corrosive or reactive.  For more information call (920) 492-4950.

  • All transactions must be by credit card only.

  • Drivers must remain in vehicles.

  • Hazardous materials must be in back end of vehicles  (trunk, lift gate or truck bed). 

  • Material will not be removed from front or back seats

Acceptable:

  • Corrosive - acids, bases, cleaning products

  • Electronics and Small Appliances - cell phones, chargers, microwaves, dorm or miniature refrigerators, dehumidifiers, air conditioners, televisions, power tools, etc. (fees apply)

  • Flammable - paint, gasoline, paint thinners, solvents, motor oils, car chemicals

  • Poisonous/Toxic - pesticides, cleaning products, insecticides

  • Reactive - pool chemicals, aerosol cans, fire extinguishers

  • Others - fluorescent light bulbs, ballasts, computers and electronics, cooking oil, propane tanks, oil, antifreeze, batteries (fees apply)

Other Important Information

 

  • The Hazardous Material Recovery Facility charges fees for certain non- or low-hazardous material. These fees may change annually. 

    • Universal waste such as electronics, latex paint, batteries, light bulbs, antifreeze, cooking oil, fire extinguishers, adhesive, windshield wiper fluid, small corded appliances are accepted for a fee.

  • Disposal of fire extinguishers is $5 per extinguisher for Brown County Residents regardless of weight or size.

  • Hazardous Material Recovery staff is not able to "pour off" gasoline and return gas containers during collections. If you are bringing gasoline or other fluids to the Hazardous Material Recovery facility this material must be brought in a container that can be left at the facility. 

  • Large Loads - If you have a large quantity of material (a truck bed full, or trailer full) please call to make an appointment. We reserve the right to reject any loads deemed too large to handle during residential hours, or you may be required to wait until a slower period. If you are in doubt, you should call and discuss it with Hazardous Material Recovery personnel.

 

  • Attention - If two people are required to lift a television into a vehicle, we may require help to unload it when it is brought to our facility.
